Bambu Lab has presented the H3C, the first desktop printer of its third generation, built around a Swaptek tool changer with nine permanently loaded and preheated tools. The company says a material change takes under six seconds. The H3C AMS Combo costs 2,499 US dollars in the US and 2,499 euros including VAT in the EU.

Key facts
  • Nine independent tools, each with its own filament path and heater
  • Material change in under 6 seconds, using Active Pre-Heat
  • Nozzles up to 350 °C, chamber held at 65 °C, hardened steel nozzles
  • H3C AMS Combo: 2,499 US dollars, or 2,499 euros including VAT in the EU

Context A tool changer swaps whole print heads instead of unloading and reloading filament in one head, which is what normally makes multi-material FFF slow and wasteful.

How does the Swaptek tool changer work?

The H3C keeps nine independent print tools loaded and preheated, each with its own filament path and heater. Active Pre-Heat reads the upcoming G-code and starts heating the next nozzle while the current tool finishes its section. After the mechanical swap, a short purge sequence brings fresh filament back to the model, with minimal material waste. Bambu Lab states the whole change takes under 6 seconds.

A retractable mount pulls the guide tubes back during printing. The company says this keeps the part visible, reduces vibration and frees build height on the Z axis. The system also handles automatic docking, tool offset compensation and full bed levelling before each print.

Which materials and hardware does it support?

The FlexFeed extruder takes 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm filament. A dedicated 2.85 mm path is meant for TPU, which Bambu Lab says can be extruded at up to three times the flow of a conventional printer and as soft as Shore 75A. All nine spools sit in the AMS 3H, a sealed chamber with a drying module that heats to 85 °C during printing, intended for PA, PC and carbon fiber filled blends. Connecting any AMS to Tool 1 extends the system to 24 materials.

All nozzles from 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm are hardened steel at HRC 55 or higher. Each tool reaches 350 °C, and a contact sensor holds the chamber at 65 °C. The tool head and X axis are 40 percent lighter than on the predecessor, allowing acceleration of 25,000 mm/s² and travel speeds up to 1,400 mm/s. Cooling uses four stages, including a CFD-designed part fan.

What can users do with it, and what does it cost?

Bambu Lab points to quick colour mixing from five base colours in its PLA Palette, different nozzle sizes within one print, and combining soft TPU with harder engineering polymers in one part. An optional BirdsEye camera offers two-angle monitoring. Accessories sold separately include the Bambu Station and the E1 Air Purifier.

The H3C AMS Combo costs 2,499 US dollars excluding VAT in the US, including shipping, and 2,499 euros including VAT in the EU. The release states availability from 3 November in the official Bambu Lab store.

What it means

The H3C is sold as a consumer and creator machine, but its specification points at light production uses: 350 °C tools, a heated chamber, hardened nozzles and drying for PA and carbon fiber filled blends. For small and mid sized companies, the relevant uses are fixtures, jigs and soft-rigid hybrid parts, where less purge waste and fewer manual changes lower cost per part. All figures are manufacturer claims, and no mechanical data or qualification evidence is given, so serial parts need their own testing. It continues the earlier H3C launch and TPU 75A coverage.

Frequently asked questions

How fast does the Bambu Lab H3C change material?

Bambu Lab states a material change takes under 6 seconds. The next nozzle is preheated through Active Pre-Heat, which reads the upcoming G-code.

How many materials can the H3C use?

Nine spools fit in the AMS 3H, and connecting any AMS to Tool 1 extends the system to 24 materials. It handles both 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm filament.

What does the H3C cost?

The H3C AMS Combo is 2,499 US dollars excluding VAT in the US and 2,499 euros including VAT in the EU. It is sold through the official Bambu Lab store.
