Next Layer, Romania's only event dedicated solely to additive manufacturing, holds its second edition in Bucharest on 15 and 16 March 2027. Organiser 3DinBox expects over 800 participants and wants to bring users and non-users of AM together to speed up adoption in Romanian industry. Terry Wohlers headlines the programme.
What is planned for the 2027 edition?
The event takes place at the HALO Events Center in Bucharest. Organisers expect more than 800 participants, two conference stages, one with a 360-degree LED setup, and over 1,000 square metres of exhibition space. The October 2025 debut ran on a single stage with 200 seats. The programme includes keynotes, panels, workshops, masterclasses and a startup area for meeting partners, customers and investors.
Why a cross-industry mix?
Speakers are to come from energy, automotive, robotics, aerospace, fashion and medical. Organisers argue that new applications are more likely to emerge when people from different fields meet than from any single keynote. They note that some Romanian companies already run fleets of around one hundred industrial printers, but many still see 3D printing mainly as prototyping. Interest in serial production, tooling, digital inventories and distributed manufacturing is growing.
Who is behind it?
3DinBox, a Romanian AM reseller, service provider and community hub founded by Andrei Murariu, organises the show. Terry Wohlers, founder of the Wohlers Report, headlines. VoxelMatters is a media partner. Tickets are on sale on nextlayer3d.ro.
What it means
For manufacturers in Central and Eastern Europe, a local event lowers the barrier to seeing working AM cases in neighbouring industries. The stated gap is not equipment but experience: firms with large printer fleets exist, while many others still treat AM as prototyping. Events like this can help with contacts and skills, but the business case, qualification and supplier choice still have to be worked out part by part.
