Elegoo has launched a Fiber-Reinforced Filament Series for FDM printers with three materials: PETG-CF, PETG-GF and PAHT-CF. Prices in the US start at 9.99 dollars for 0.5 kg. The company cites low familiarity and high cost as the main reasons users have not tried such filaments, and says more variants are in development.
Key facts
Three materials: PETG-CF, PETG-GF and PAHT-CF
US prices: PETG-CF and PETG-GF 9.99 dollars per 0.5 kg, PAHT-CF 21.99 dollars
PAHT-CF is stated to withstand temperatures up to 194 °C
Sold in the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australia, and on Amazon
Context Fiber-filled filament has short fibers mixed into the plastic, which differs from CFF, where continuous fiber is laid along the layer contour.
What are the three new filaments?
PETG-CF combines PETG with carbon fiber for stiffness and abrasion resistance, with a matte finish. Elegoo names fixtures, brackets, bicycle parts and enclosures as uses. PETG-GF uses glass fiber for hardness and electrical insulation, aimed at electrical enclosures, tooling fixtures and connectors. PAHT-CF pairs carbon fiber with high-temperature nylon, stated to withstand up to 194 °C, for motor housings, gears and metal-replacement parts.
Prices and availability
In the US, 1 kg spools cost 18.99 dollars for PETG-CF and PETG-GF and 39.99 dollars for PAHT-CF. Half-kilo spools cost 9.99 and 21.99 dollars. The range is sold through Elegoo stores in the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australia, and on Amazon. Regional prices and print settings are on Elegoo's website.
What it means
These are short fiber filled filaments, not continuous fiber reinforcement, so stiffness gains are of a different order than CFF. For small manufacturers, the low price makes them an inexpensive way to test jigs, fixtures and housings on existing FDM machines. Abrasive fibers typically call for hardened nozzles, and no mechanical data is given in the report, so any functional use needs its own testing.
